Anxiety

Sometimes we let anxiety get the best of us. I’ve certainly been combatting this ever since the news of my rent increase hit — It’s hard not to let that be the focus of my thoughts.

But that’s the problem, and I don’t want to focus on the problem. I want to focus on the solution.

I definitely let myself wallow for a few days before remembering my mindset is a choice. I can choose to focus on what’s outside my control, or I can choose to focus on what’s inside of it.

We feel anxious when we feel out of control.

I can’t control the fact that my apartment is raising it’s rent and trying to push the tenants out. However, I can control what I do with this information. I’ve been calling the housing office, reaching out to tenant’s right hotlines, searching for new apartments, and seeing what my options are.

By worrying, we don’t gain anything. We only lose. We lose our valuable time and energy. We lose our drive. We lose our intention.

And often, we get depressed.

It’s important to feel what you’re feeling, which is partly why I allowed myself a second to feel the weight of this change, but ultimately, this will be a good thing. I believe everything happens for a reason, and so clearly this is a time of growth for me.

Getting pushed to grow is an awesome thing! But it isn’t easy. So it’s important to focus on the benefits and not the down sides.

What is worrying you?

Are you controlling your thoughts or are your thoughts controlling you?

Remember: search for solutions, and you’ll start to feel in control again.
